Pigmentation and Melasma Treatment in Islamabad

Pigmentation is the one where the aftercare matters more than the treatment. Without daily sun protection it comes back, every time.

What is actually going on

Dark patches on the cheeks, forehead and upper lip are usually melasma. It is driven by hormones and switched on by sunlight, which is why it appears in pregnancy, on the pill, and always worse in summer.

This is the most honest conversation we have with patients, because melasma is managed rather than cured. Anyone promising to remove it permanently is not telling you the truth.

The good news is that it responds. Patches lighten, the face evens out, and for most people that is a large difference. The condition is just one that needs keeping on top of.

Which one sounds like you

MelasmaSymmetrical brown patches, usually cheeks and upper lip. Hormonal, worsened by sun.
Sun spotsScattered, distinct, on the areas that catch the most light. Usually easier to treat.
Post inflammatory marksBrown marks where a spot or an injury healed. These fade with time.
Uneven overall toneNo distinct patches, just a dullness. Often the easiest to improve.

Being honest with you

Two things will decide your result, and neither of them happens in our chair. Daily sunscreen, reapplied, every day including cloudy ones and indoors near windows. And patience, because this takes months. We have watched excellent results undone in one unprotected summer. If you are not going to wear sunscreen, this is not the treatment to spend money on, and we will say that to your face.

Questions people ask

Will it come back?
It can, and with melasma it usually will if the sun protection stops. Think of it as managed rather than finished.
Is laser good for melasma?
Often not, and this surprises people. Heat can make melasma worse, especially on deeper skin tones. We usually reach for peels and topical work first.
How long until I see a change?
Six to twelve weeks for most people, on a proper course. It is gradual, which is why photographs help more than memory.
Can I treat it while pregnant?
Mostly no. Pregnancy melasma often fades by itself after birth, and most actives are not suitable while you are expecting or feeding. Sunscreen and patience are the honest advice.
